really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, fictional-adventure, young-adult

This fantasy adventure tells the story of Matteo Alacran, who was “harvested” as a clone of El Patron, lord of the country Opium, a country between the US and Mexico ruled by feudal land owners who grow drugs to sell in their neighboring countries. Matt struggles to carve out an existence and an identity in the face of El Patron’s power hungry family, bodyguards and evil patrols. Though Matt is 14 by the end of the novel, the story of his struggles makes a positive and engaging adventure which will appeal to most readers from upper elementary to adult.
