it was amazing
bookshelves: recommended, newberry-award
Recommended for: Parents of Pre-Teen Children
Read in September, 2009 , read count: Once

Enjoyed reading, but a little surprised that it's intended for children? One chapter describes an encounter between a large snake and a woman while she's posing nude for a painter...

Otherwise, interesting and "real" characters in that the writer exposes their good points and bad points.

A serious question is asked and answered: how do people individually and collectively survive extremely hard times? Humor, wit, creativity, cooperation. And sometimes you just have to hunker down in the southeast corner of the basement til the storm passes.

Good choice for read-aloud-a-chapter-a-day.
