I have always been disappointed in Ophelia. So Hamlet treats her badly. So he kills her dad. Show some backbone, girl! Don't kill yourself!
Apparently, author Lisa Klein and I share these feelings. Her feminist re-telling of the Hamlet story allows Ophelia to shine, giving girls in need of a self-esteem boost a good heroine to look towards. On top of that, it's just plain fun to read.
Recommended by an essayist in the New York Times Book Review, I'm glad I took myself off to a library (rather than a nunnery) and checked this out!
