This is the best horror story I've ever read. It's one of the few horror stories I've ever read that gave me the chills. This would make such a wonderful film!!! As evidence, John Carpenter's The Thing took LOTs of inspiration from this story.

An exploration team is lost in Antarctica and it turns out they've discovered something TRULY ancient and terrifying and alien and getting away from it is TRULY problematic.

And I'm not saying more. Read this book if you like weird horror stories. Read this book if you like modern horror writers because most of them have read this book, too, and for a good reason.
