really liked it

The whole time I thought "Why am I reading this? There are so many better things I could be reading." But the last fifty pages or so made me change my mind. I like this book and I'm glad I read it, even though I found its premise perposterous and its narrative transparent and gimmicky. The characters are shallowly rendered and undeveloped and as a whole the novel cannot support its duel plotlines, which is integral to the final effect. Brockmeier is a talented writer if for no other reason than that he can do everything that irks me in a book, and still write a book I like. Weird.
