When I'm not reading J.M. Coetzee I forget that he's funny. Not in the sense of a comic scenario building to a punchline, but in acute, insightful flashes. Had I not been on the train, I probably would have hopped up and down reading the Schubert scene. Coordinating their activities to Schubert! Oof! It was kind of an SPS trifecta, and it made me want to offer to take care of Coetzee in his old age.
