I enjoyed this book. It is the beginning of a paranormal trilogy set in Brytewood, England. It is WWII and the Nazis have parachuted vampires in to help in their invasion of England. Alice Doyle is the doctor in Brytewood. She is given a CO as an assistant and judges him harshly for not serving in the military. As evacuees come into the neighborhood and Nazi bombings occur Alice is in a mystery of how people and animals are drained of blood. She does not believe in anything outside of science but learns that she must come to terms with her Otherness to help in the war effort. And as she is doing this she falls in love with her assistant, Peter. This is a quick easy read. It's fun and as I read more of the series I'm falling in love with the village of Brytewood and all its eccentric characters.
