Growing up in Baghdad was a wonderful experience for Zainab. She remembers lots of happy times. Listening to her in the beginning of the book is like listening to any other happy American child. It was nice to see how our culture is not so different from others. Zainab and her family were happy and carefree until Saddam Hussein came into their lives. This family was educated and elite, yet they still fell prey to this Tyrant. Zainab tells of horrific incidents that her family and other endured under the reign of Saddam Hussein. This story is heart wrenching and an eye opener. Zainab Salbi is a true fighter and heroine. Despite her struggles and losses she was able to launch a successful humanitarian charity that helps women all over the world.
