As a journalist John Hersey has done a fantastic job in portraying the inhumanity and deplorable conditions following the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in what appears to be a semi-factual novel.

However, to fault the 'novel', it must be said that it does not flow. The charectars, although suffer terribly, are not evocative enough, leaving the reader with a sense of numbness at completion. This can not detract from the objective insight into the situation however.

Reccomended for those with a keen interest in the events described within the book, but not necerssarily those looking for a substantial read.
