Blood Meridian is a beautifully written book--at times it seems like the landscape is the main character--but also an extremely violent and graphic book. The problem I had with it is that thematically it seems to wander as much as its main character. The book follows the life of "The Kid" who wanders around from one violent episode to the next. The characters of the Judge and the Ex-priest try to give the novel some thematic coherence on the big questions of violence, war and death, but I don't think ultimately they are successful.
