My first foray into fantasy. The writing and plotline were pretty exciting, but some inconsistencies and plot holes detracted from my respect for the book.

My favorite thing about this book was the sayings near the end of each chapter, generally sounding so wise I considered engraving them into wood or tattooing them on my skin.

On a deeper level, the book explored some themes of revenge, guilt, and power. The problem was the unbelievable nature of the fantasy world and the often illogical behavior of characters and plot made it difficult to really relate whatever he was trying to say into real life. (again, maybe this isn't the point. it's a fantasy book)

So, an enjoyable read, but not amazing.
