This is a gorgeous book and one of my all time favourites. I listened to The Aloof and Leftfield while reading this and still to this day when I hear that music it evokes the atmosphere and experience of it. I adore this book and hope it has a wide audience for many years to come.

Jena Garcia I love this book also, however I wonder if the translation varies a bit in the edition you read which seems to have been published later (I read it as , "Smilla's Sense of Snow" circa 1995.)

Regardless of what may or may not have been lost in translation, I do agree that the deep, lonesome beauty in Hoeg's triumph is unforgettable.

Chris McLane I'm delighted we have a book in common!!
The American version has a different title, but I would like to think there is no difference in the translation.

I've never reread a book before, but I think if I could re read a book, I would have this on my list.
