I liked this book pretty well. Last Orders tells the story of a group of English men who are making a day-long journey to the sea to dispose of the ashes of a friend. Chapters are narrated by different characters and through flashbacks and narrator commentary, the reader slowly learns the history of their relationships. The book picks an ordinary day to focus on, but explores the conflicts and grudges that underlie the characters' history. As you learn more, you better understand some of the tensions that manifest in the current day. While not a lot happens in the book, I enjoyed the characters. Really beautiful and restrained writing. A bit tedious, but overall, very enjoyable and a surprisingly quick read.
