Ella, the main character when she was born Ella was given a gift by a fairy. To most people a fairy's gift would be fantastic though many people may not understand what these gifts mean. Ella's gift was to be obedient always. At first this sounded ok but through the story, Ella's gift seemed more like a curse. What is even worse is that, after her mother dies, her father marries the horrible Dame Olga. Dame Olga's two mean daughters, Hattie and Olive make her life unbearable especially Hattie. Ella must do whatever she is told which becomes very difficult when she is shipped off to Finishing School with her evil step sisters. This is where Hattie gets Ella to be her slave. Ella soon falls in love with Char, Prince of Frell, who she meets, and he likes her too. So she later in the story goes to find Lucinda the fairy to break her curse and then finds out that Lucinda can’t do anything about it. Ella has to break it on her own. There were many strange characters in the story including ogres, fairies, and elves. <br/> To me the author’s purpose was to entertain us in a romantic way like all fairytales. She made it adventurous, and interesting. The tone of the book was sad then it would get happy and adventurous. <br/> I really liked this book it was really interesting especially having a good ending. I would recommend this book to anybody because it’s good. I have read a lot of Gail Carson Levine’s books and I really also like them.
