really liked it
bookshelves: horror, love-story, gay

Good book, thought it was about vamps when my friend Marc recommended it to me, but it's not...which is fine. Awesomely bloody non-stereotypical gay love story between a skinny goth hacker from New Orleans on the run and a hippie-looking young graphic artist whose whole family was murdered by his father 20 years ago. Whew! They end up playing house in the actual house the murders happened in, and yes, it's haunted! Lots of hot gay sex, large ganja spliffs, southern gothic hanging moss, rock n' roll and yes, drawing of blood. Her prose style and manipulations of plot to make things happen are a bit trite at times, but I was still totally drawn in. I liked that it wasn't trying hard to be all epic and grandiose, but stuck closer to these characters and their soul-searching (but not in a dull way). I want more, gonna pick up P.Z. Brite's other works soon. If Missing Mile, North Carolina was a real place, I'd definitely head there on a road trip!

oh, yes I think she is. Like Anne Rice, but less purple and way more upfront with the gay. In fact, there was a couple things in this book that reminded me of you.
