Since his mom died of cancer, Danny and his dad move around a lot until they end up in the frozen town of Harvest Cove where Danny is chased and terrorized by some sort of monster that stings him, then disappears into the night. Thereafter, Danny's body temperature drops and he begins to have nightmares of a frozen wasteland in which he is hunted by the monster. With the help of his friends, one of whom has also been stung, Danny determines that this monster has been hunting the kids of Harvest Cove for generations, and that he will be its next meal if he doesn't figure out a way to stop it.
This book is a real page-turner that grabs you from the beginning with lots of action and suspense that boys will enjoy. The monster is introduced early on, but bits of information about it continue to be slowly revealed throughout the story that make it even scarier. This would be fun to read in the middle of a snowstorm.
