Chicago. 1930's. Depression Era. A man is on the run. He is bestowed with a house key, of which he has no desire to use, but he is lured to an abandoned and boarded up home...where all sinister things begin to happen. A serial killer he becomes. He travels back and forth through time to do his bidding (find and kill the shining girls) and more importantly, to subdue the House's demands. However, one of the girls survives. Very unsettling for Harper, the serial killer. "The Shining Girls" was a fascinating read. I immediately became entranced with Harper. He puzzled me at times...I didn't know whether it was really him who was doing the murdering or if it was the House. Lauren Beukes has crafted an exciting new thriller that is going to leave its readers perplexed. When I neared the end I asked myself, "what just happened?"
