Circle of Friends is a story about a group of friends in Ireland. It begins when Benny's mother makes her invite Eve to her tenth birthday party. Benny's mother feels sorry for Eve, because she is being raised in the convent and the family she does have does not want anything to do with her. The girls of course become inseperable. Fast forward ten years, and they are about to go separate ways: Benny to university, and Eve to a different convent to work for them in order to live there and take a secretary class. Their circle of friends grows in leaps and bounds.

This is the novel that the movie with the same name is based on, starring Chris O'Donnell and Minnie Driver. I did not realize this upon first reading the novel, nor have I seen the movie. I am interested in seeing the movie now. I related with Benny throughout the book, especially in parts where her parents do not seem to want to give her any freedom. I think it is a great book, and am glad I read it. I am a big fan of Maeve Binchy, and need to read more of her novels.
