I tend to rate books simply on how much I enjoy reading them and how much enrichment I take with me. This short, easy to read book is a slam dunk on both counts. The topic, while specifically related to volleyball, can be easily applied to any situation in which a group of people need be molded into a "team" (i.e. a music ensemble such as a band). I especially enjoy the way Pettit draws on sources, ideas, and methods outside of the "jock" world to teach concepts. These concepts are adaptable in almost any situation dealing with people working together for a common purpose. Did you know his Bachelors degree is English and in grad school he received a Master of Fine Arts in poetry?
