Honestly, not a bad read right up to the last portion. Then it was hard to overlook the formulaic bits and the monsters were more cartoonish.

Yep, monsters galore. Can't wait to see the movie, but basically, it doesn't depart that much from your standard Michael Crichton stuff. You know, (spoiler!!) actually, it's possible that some ecosystems are okay to nuke, environmentalists are actually evil misanthropic cynics, etc . . .

When you look past the stereotypes, the biology is actually cool and kind of fun. That's what I loved about this, that it isn't afraid to info-dump a few ideas about evolution, however dumbed down they might be. And there's illustrations to boot. Great beach read stuff.
