it was amazing
bookshelves: 2013_release_read, genre-sf, read_2013, shorts
Read from July 15 to 17, 2013

This is an excellent collection of stories set in the Quiet war milieu; the first 3 longer stories have been published before and I actually have read the last 2 recently (Dead Men walking and Macy Minnot's Last Christmas on Dione etc) for the second time each, but they are very good and enjoyable for another reread; the first one Sea Change , With Monsters is one I probably have read a while ago as i remembered it dimly but it was like a fresh read and another very good one

After that, the book contains 12 very short stories about life in the universe after the war and mostly set before the rise of the True; diverse in locations, characters, tone, subject they weave in a superb body of work that is among the best sf at short length I've read - all of them are excellent and I would mention Monoliths (tribute to 2001 by AC), Ghost of the Holloway, The New Neighbors, Space Fever and Same As It Ever Was

The ending is an excerpt from Evening's Empires

Highly recommended both for fans of the Quiet war milieu and even for newcomers who can appreciate why this universe is so interesting and well crafted
