Read this book in two days this summer. Highly recommended. The setting is California's Salton Sea, a place that once held promise but now is is forgotten, an environmental mistake that should not have happened. It is a metaphor for the character of Malcom. His older brother Ares believes Malcom once held promise but because of an accident Malcom was ruined. This is a terrific story about sibling responsibility and guilt. I wonder if Ms. Silver had personal experience with caring for a sibling and having to grow up much too fast? She's go it dead on.
