Recommended to Susann by: Regina lent it to me.
Read in August, 2009, read count: 1

I loved the setting of the house on the Thames and I enjoyed the Cromwell and Restoration history. But the actual story didn't work for me. Gardner crammed so much in that she ended up with cliched characters and weak motivations. The evil Maud and Arise seemed particularly one-dimensional.
