It took me a while to get around to reading this book, as I was a bit ambivalent about Storm Born, however I found myself enjoying this one much more. Mead did a good job of reminding me what had happened in the first book before thrusting me into the action of this one.

I'd read much about people's feelings towards Dorian and Kiyo, so it was interesting to see how their characters developed over the course of the book. I also liked the further development of Rurik and Shaya and the guidance and strength they lent to Eugenie.

Eugenie still isn't one of my favorite heroines, but she does eventually find some peace within herself that will, hopefully, result in a less frustrating character in the next book. I think she came a long way in Thorn Queen and hopefully she will full embrace her monarchy for the events that unfolded for Iron Crowned - because I'm looking forward to reading it.
