I had some awareness about the dust bowl, but I had no clue about how bad that period of time and place in our country's geography was until I ran across this book.

The book invites us to follow the stories of a number of folks who persevered through these horrible times. Perhaps more importantly though, it gives us a picture of the ways our land was raped and how that played out in incredibly disastrous ways.

While an interesting and worthwhile read, at times, I found the book a little long and tedious; which is why I have given in 4 stars instead of 5.
