I almost did not read this book because of the young adult tag. After reading the "Twilight" series and being disappointed by the low reading level and the self-involvement of the characters. But "The Book Thief" certainly was a great improvement.
The book is set in Munich during WWII. It tells the story of Liesel, her family and friends living on the poor side of a small town on the outskirts of Munich. "The Book Thief" shows us the day to day lives that resulted from Hitler's policies, the war and normal human interaction, but mostly it shows us how humans can care for one another even when they are not in the best situation themselves.
