My brother was a missionary in France during the 80's and returned with Asterix figures, books, etc. Since then I seem to have forgotten all about it until seeing it recently in the book "500 Essential Graphic Novels". So I decided to request a copy from my local library.

The Asterix series is light, playful, and has enough content to drive the storyline to the very last page. I wouldn't consider them to be super engaging, but they are enjoyable. Though they were originally written in French the translation appears to be spot-on and I didn't see any of the gaps that are often found in foreign translations. I don't know that I'll be requesting any more Asterix stories myself, but would recommend them to anyone who has young adolescent children.
