*Worst Book List*

This book was ridiculously over the top, and just plain BAD. In fact, it has the distinction of being close to the top of my list of worst books I've ever had the misfortune of reading. What an honor.

The plot, or what the author tried to pass off as one...was laughable, and made little sense. I realize this was a short novel, but Jones didn't even attempt to show any kind of motivation as to why the characters did what they did. I think this was a prime example of someone writing a bunch of sex scenes, and throwing them together with a bit of idiotic filler to fill up the pages. And having been a long time fan of both erotica & romantica fiction, i can honestly say there was nothing at all sexy about this book.

The female lead ends up having every kind of sex with just about any character in the vicinity, and considers herself to be 'in love' with what has to be hands down one of the most unappealing 'heroes' I've ever read about. The Maestro is supposed to be dark, dangerous and possess a forbidden type of sexiness. For me, he came off as being an uncomfortably written bully. Sexy? I don't think so.

The solitary bright side? . The story could have been longer.

Laura You crack me up!! So would you classify this as porn rather than erotica, since it was just a bunch of sex scenes joined together with filler like porn?

Holly I would say about 90% of the book was some form of sex scene, so yeah. Porn more than erotica.
You know, it wouldn't have bothered me if the sex scenes were actually GOOD. LOL

Laura LMAO!! Uh-oh. That bad, huh? Alrightyyyyy. Maybe this is a first novel and she will get better with every book. See? I'm such a positive slut.

Seriously though, I am soooooo picky about the kind of sex scenes I like. I like to read sex scenes just like the kind I write in my novels...smokin' hot, fast paced, not a bunch of filler tossed in there to bore the reader or throw you out of the scene. A good sex scene is hard as hell to write. And you can't have too many too close together or the reader goes numb after a while. Horrors! That's the last thing you want (lol). So maybe she will get better with time. ;)

Holly I don't think this was her first book, and I know she has a few more in this series. *shudder*

You're right, too many love scenes too close together start to blur in my head after a while. I would much rather have a few super hot sex scenes than a whole bunch of boring ones. :)

Laura Right. You gotta build a heat level then give the readers a sex scene that makes their panties melt. Then build up the heat level again. Then give them HAWT sex again. And you gotta have a story and plot that is not the sex scenes. If you don't then it's kinda pornish IMO.

Holly You're exactly right, Laura. Must be why you're so good at writing. ;)

Laura Thanks, girlfriend. Wow, you really know how to flatter me and it's WORKING! ;)

I can't remember. Have you read any of my novels like my latest one, "Call of the Witches"? It's borderline erotica. You might like it if you haven't read it yet.

Every erotica novelist has to come up with a formula for writing the kind of sex scenes she likes to read. They are made up of dialogue, action, and thoughts...and not in equal amounts. Writing them is so technical. I often say it's like directing a sex scene in a movie with a bunch of people standing around saying "Okay, this arm goes here, and this leg goes here, etc." lol
