The dialogue was stiff and very unnatural at times. Writing style was interesting -- distinct absence of ands, something you notice a lot at first then become used to. I actually got very comfortable with it.

Too many instances of said with a colon after it. Commas would've done fine...

Overall story is not what it's cracked up to be -- I felt the characters were rather distant, and the book as a whole has not changed my life, as it has some people, apparently. It was interesting to see the influences on Star Wars and other space operas.

Would've liked to seen more time spent with the Harkonnens -- who, unfortunately, were the stereotypical Pure Evil bad guys. Apparently Harkonnens are intrinsically corrupt. Lame and shallow writing, that.

Despite the issues, I enjoyed it. It's the absorbing world, not the characters, that will probably linger in my mind.
