This book was apparently Walter Moers' fourth "Zambia" book, about a fictional continent, long since vanished, inhabited by anthropomorphic extinct and legendary animals. The narrator, an aspiring author, is a dinosaur named Optimus Yarnspinner. Yarnspinner is visiting the title location, the city of Bookhelm, and he gets into the somewhat literal bloodsport that is literature. Moers' book is cute, his many illustrations add a nice touch, but I wasn't enchanted enough to go looking for more. The humor is somewhat slight, and most of it seemed to consist of various real world authors like Dickens and Shakespeare having themselves represented by anagram versions of their names.
