A handful of English children are sent to live with their eccentric uncle in a big and mysterious house. One rainy day, the children decide to explore the house. And behind a wardrobe, the Pevensies... oh, wait. These aren't the Pevensies, they're the Drews.

It's strange to me no one seems to comment on how completely derivative the opening to Over Sea, Under Stone is.

Anyway, these books are fine. I enjoyed them. But I have to say that I think touting these as unsung Harry Potters is not appropriate. The Potter books have 10 times more substance than these.

I stopped to wonder if maybe I had found these Dark is Rising books as a kid, I would think they were as great as Harry Potter. But then, I read Harry Potter as an adult too, so that doesn't really seem relevant after all.
