I don't know why I am surprised that I liked this book as much as I did, it is Koontz after all. But I seem to go through this cycle. Five years ago I said I would never read Koontz. I did not enjoy "horror' books. Then when I finally picked up ODD THOMAS and fell in love with the character, the writing style, the story, I thought I would give Koontz another try, but only his stuff after 2000. I mean, I still knew his earlier stuff wouldn't be good. So I kept reading and enjoying, even loving everything that came after Odd Thomas, even a few things before, but not much before. So when I saw this book at a yard sale while on vacation I picked it up. Koontz had been wearing me down, and I figured I would try something older, but I knew I wouldn't like it as much as his new stuff. I was wrong. This is a great book! Romance, suspense, a very out of the ordinary hero, a strong female lead and a perfectly charming child character. Koontz just knows how to write and deliver the completely unexpected.
