Megan Abbott draws upon a real-life missing persons case in this descent into Hollywood's darkest corners. Two years after Jean Spangler vanishes, presumed dead, a Hollywood publicist who was with her earlier that evening is prompted to start strip away his own whitewash of the events and find out what really happened, and discover just how intimately Jean's fate touches upon his own life. He keeps pushing and pushing, barely even taking the time to sleep, and neither will you once you get sucked into the story.
