Georgina's story will touch readers not because she's homeless (though for many kids this might be their first exposure to homelessness), but because she is smart, resourceful and wants to help change her family's situation. Stealing a dog may not have been the best solution, but it was an option she thought she could manage (and I loved how she kept a journal to plan her strategy).I was surprised to read that some parents were upset because Georgina steals a dog and doesn't get suitably "punished" for her misdeeds. For me, her wrestling with her conscience, going back and forth about what to do, and having to face the consequences of her action (possible rupture of a friendship, feeling responsible for the dog's well-being) was one of the book's greatest strengths.
