I was fortunate to be chosen to receive an Advance Reader Edition of this book through Goodreads.com.

This is the memoir of a mother's journey to help her child, even if it means that she has to go about obtaining help in an unconventional way.

In September 2000, the author's daughter, Maya, attacks her mother and blames her behavior on Dodo, her "imaginary friend". This begins the often chaotic cycle of bizarre behavior in Maya. Hope tries to "cure" Maya's behavior through conventional medical channels to no avail.

It is only when the family plans a vacation during the Christmas holiday in Belize and Hope and her husband decide to take Maya to a shaman during their vacation that Maya is healed. What also happens in turn is that these events draw the family even closer together.

What I learned from this book is that sometimes you need to take that leap of faith and have an openmind about things that first appear strange and unknown. The author's husband asks her in the book what she believes in. Her response? The possibility of everything. Exactly.
