really liked it

There are many things I loved about this book and a few I didn't. The characters were wonderful: Lev, a Ukrainian immigrant to London: Lydia, a fellow traveller; Rudi, his wild friend back home; Christy, an Irish plumber who becomes his friend. The writing is skilled and the opening stretch, the journey by bus to London was wonderful. There are two many implausible, predictable moments, but after a while I just went with it. By the last third of the book those moments went too far, yet the characters and the vivid writing kept me engaged.
