We have this book shelved in teen at my library, but it seemed a little young for most of teens I work with. A good choice for readers who like their fantasies to follow the exploits of plucky, unlikely female heroines but can't stomach some of violence and intimations of sexual relationships in some of Tamora Pierce & Kristen Cashore's books. Hale does a great job of capturing the rhythms of daily life in a mountain village. A good "clean" read for children and younger teens. I might alsto recommend this one to fans of Lois Lowry's Giver trilogy -- something about the setting and language reminded me of that series.
