Another thing I find interesting was how Tom Sawyer obviously served as an archetype for lots of modern-day fictional characters such as Dennis the Menace and Bart Simpson. They are so clearly based on him! This definitely makes this a very influential book. Tom Sawyer: the original young boy troublemaker protagonist.

Another thing that impresses me is how well Twain's prose style holds up after all these years. A lot of literature from the 19th century is in a writing style that sounds old-fashioned and stuffy nowadays. Not Mark Twain. He writes in such a timeless style. Very impressive.

Now I'm craving something heavier. I'm in the mood for another epic fantasy in the same vein as LOTR or Harry Potter. I want to be wowed by something really powerful.]]>
