I like some of McCarthy's other works, but this one was not my favorite. It's a crime thriller, with lots of plot turns and unexpected twists. A man hunting antelope in south-west Texas stumbles on a drug shipment deep in the desert, where the couriers have all been killed but the money and drugs are still there. He takes the several million dollars in cash, and then spends the rest of the book "on the run" trying to stay alive from the assassins sent after him to recover the money. A sensitive sheriff who tries to protect him and his family is a bright spot, and the look into the world of drug suppliers is eye-opening. But too much graphic violence and strong language ruined the story for me.
