Sigh. There are some books that are revered as classics that I just can't like. Like John Steinbeck. I can appreciate he is an excellent writer, but I just don't enjoy his books.

And then there are books that are help up to the classic canon that I think are rubbish, and don't understand at all about the appeal. On the Road by Kerouac is one of them.

Maybe I hated the book because it glorified excessive drug use, mistreatment of women, and total lack of responsibility. I do get the need to be gone and lose yourself on the open road. I just don't understand why you need the drugs and the attitude to do it.

If that makes me totally closed minded and "square" then so be it.
