It has been pretty boring and repeats itself a lot. A much better book about brain injury is the biography called A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas. The Echo Maker is fictional but looked interesting, it won The National Book Award. It is a about a young man, who after a car accident, suffers a condition called Capgras where he thinks someone he loves (in this case his sister) has been replaced by an actor, alien or robot. The subject is interesting but the fictional story is a little unwieldly. (written while 1/2 way through the book)
Finished. All I can say is that it it only got worse. The author ends the book in the same way he starts it, in an incomprehensible philosophical fog. The environmental stuff about the cranes and the Platte River is probably interesting and important, but the cause suffers from being written about in this book. The author mentions the book My Antonia several times, as "Marker" reads it and passes it on to "Shrinky". My advise is to read My Antonia and skip The Echo Maker.
