Gosh, Eve Dallas is angry. Dallas, the main character in Robb/Roberts popular "In Death" series, has a lot to be angry about, I guess. She's still recovering from a genuinely awful, abusive childhood -- enough to make anyone cranky. The mysteries she solves are pretty standard police procedurals with a lot of sci-fi type language thrown in (she solves crimes in a futuristic New York). She has a cool assistant. And did I mention her husband? Multi-gajillionaire, gorgeous, super-thoughtful, and great at hacking into other people's computer systems to get Dallas the info she needs to solve cases?

It was an easy read, and I can understand the appeal of the series. Robb/Roberts is talented at taking a formula (ie: romance, mystery) and giving it a unique twist. Her writing is accessible and her characters charming. Except for angry Dallas, that is. I hope things improve for her as the series advances.
