bookshelves: fairy-and-folk-tale-retelling
Read in August, 2002

Strong retelling of East of the Sun, West of the Moon, full of fairy-tale-ish characters and creatures... very vigorous and fast-paced. It's really surprising that McKiernan could write such a fresh book; he's mainly been cranking out ever-longer, more pretentious and ultimately tiresome Mithgar books, for the decade and half before this.
