You would think by now that John Sandford's Lucas Davenport character would have been all played out. But his books seem to actually get better with each new episode. Maybe its because I live in the Twin Cities and love the local color that is part of his stories, but I find them intelligently written and smartly plotted, with interesting well defined characters and humorous dialog.
This story takes place during the 2008 Republican convention in St. Paul as a well organized gang of thugs decides that there is big money to be made by armed robbery of the political money men who work behind the scenes in their hotel rooms, dispensing political bribe/payoff money.
There is also a sub-plot involving Lucas's teenage ward/daughter being stalked by an old enemy of his.
