I really didn't like the first 80 pages of this book, so much so that I was ready to give up. But more than one person urged me to keep going with it anyway. I'm glad I did. My dislike of the first section was not due to the subject matter; I could not warm up to any of the characters, the author was not breathing any life into them.

This changes with the second two-thirds, which is a clever presentation of the philosophies of God, religion and their places in the world. I join the ranks of those who would urge anyone struggling through the first bits to keep going. It's worth it.
