Of the three books in this series that I read, this one edges out as the favorite because we learn more about Ashley, the "wild child" of the series. (Lord help me, this writer loves her cliches.) Here's my question: Have the Baxter kids had any sex education? Ever? Not to give too much away, but there are a number of out-of-wedlock pregnancies in this series, and the aplomb with which the characters admit that they "never considered getting pregnant" in the heat of the moment is startling. Especially in this day and age, when the series takes place.

As you might have guessed, we learn in this story about Ashley's past. And we get to see why Ashley feels so unlovable and undeserving of love, and how God begins to redeem that through her relationships with other people. Her pharisee brother, Luke, also experiences firsthand that "pride cometh before a fall," and boy does he fall. Oh, and there's also a "really huge catastrophic event in recent U.S. history" which goes down and changes the courses of several characters' lives (I tend not to like big historical events as plot devices but oh well).
