How can you not like this: "The eroticism of virginity is the priorities of patriarchy writ large." Say that 3 times fast. I think that's a direct quote but don't have the book in front of me. I love a book that introduces me to a whole new idea. Yes, dammit, I knew about virginity...just didn't know that it's a much slipperier concept than anybody really thought. For instance, the fact that there is no real way physically to tell if someone is a virgin; the fact that a lot of non-Western cultures don't give a rat's ass if you are a virgin; the fact that no one has really explored how virgins think of themselves and their sexuality, or for that matter how men get sexually interested in virgins. Pretty good book; pretty readable. Could be improved by some endnote references.
