This is the second time I have read this book. My mum bought it for me on a holiday we took in Adelaide last year. I read this autobiographical series when I was in high school. I was in the local public library just wandering around when the cover of My Friend Muriel jumped at me. The covers are not brilliant - just plain but very inviting. I opened it and read a few pages and I was Sold!! Janet Reachfar grew up on a farm in the Scottish highlands at the turn of last century. She writes about the Armistice celebrations, her fist sight of a car and all the too-do that the Boyd sisters caused when they moved into town. Oh dear! I laughed a lot and sighed too - well that's life isn't it! On the second reading, Janet's writing is as chummy, wry and gorgeous as ever.

I love these books. To all those who love reading autobiographical novels - I highly recommend the My Friend series!!
