Sandra For what it's worth, I initially rated this book three stars as well; but then, when I realized I could recount all sorts of fascinating details a few years after reading it (and I generally have lousy retention, which makes it fun to re-read books that I know I liked the first time) I realized that I find Murakami's style (and, to a lesser degree, plot/content) fascinating and unique. Just read Kafka On the Shore and it cemented my 5-star opinion of Murakami. I had to go back and give The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles a five.

karen that's cool - i have read two and been underwhelmed. he gets one more shot with me before i give up altogether. i like other people who write like him, but for some reason, he doesn't wow me. but i'm glad he eventually clicked for you!

Sandra I love the shelf, by the way.

karen ha, thanks! i think i need to add a few more books to it...
