Definitely hard-boiled, and for me, also noir. A pretty dark book for me, but smart--smart writing, and a smart protagonist. Angel Dare, former porn star turned consultant for porn stars, ends up in a very dark and confusing situation--a former director calls her for an acting gig, she shows up, and ends up kidnapped and shot. It ends up a briefcase of stolen money was brought to her office by a friend of client, and hasn't been seen since. Angel, and her employee, Malloy, start searching for the why, the briefcase, and also those who had kidnapped her--Angel wants justice, but also revenge.

Interesting story, quick read, but again, dark for me. I would read Christa Faust again for her smart writing, and good characterization.

This mystery has been nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award, a Barry Award and an Anthony Award, all for Best Paperback Original 2009.
